February 2022 Newsletter

Hello Everyone,

I hope this newsletter finds you healthy! Many of us have had a brush with Covid and/or the flu this past month. Your willingness to stay home and convert to a Zoom lesson has helped to maintain a safe environment for our students and families. Thank you for being so considerate of others!

Our theme for the month of February will be: Intervals.  Intervals - the space between two notes - are the true building blocks of music.  This month we will sing, compose, improvise, block/map, learn chords/scales, and analyze pieces with intervals.  We will capitalize on the fact that the piano keyboard is a visual representation of intervals and harmony.  One of the many reasons that the piano is the BEST instrument!

Many of our students have been improvising, composing variations, and composing originals over the past month.  I am inspired by their creativity, wit, and thoughtful performance-preparation of their own music.  We will have a beautiful showcase of student pieces ready for the recital and our collaboration with local art students.

Finally, I would like to leave you with an oldie, but a goodie, from famous conductor and educator Ben Zander.  We are fortunate to have a community of students and families who understand the transformative power of music!
